Description

A festive and easy-to-make simmer pot designed to fill your home with natural, enchanting holiday aromas. This blend of citrus, cranberries, and warm spices creates a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for Christmas gatherings or quiet winter evenings.

Ingredients

Scale

2-3 medium oranges, sliced
1 cup fresh cranberries
4-5 cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon whole cloves
2-3 star anise pods
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra sweetness)
4-6 cups water (or enough to fill your pot)

Instructions

Step 1: Gather all your fresh and dried ingredients: sliced oranges, fresh cranberries, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and star anise pods. If using, have your vanilla extract ready.
Step 2: Carefully place all the gathered ingredients into a medium-sized saucepan or a small pot. Arrange them artfully to make it visually appealing, as it will be sitting on your stovetop.
Step 3: Pour 4-6 cups of water into the pot, ensuring all the ingredients are fully submerged. You may need more or less water depending on the size of your pot.
Step 4: Place the pot on your stovetop over low heat. Bring the water to a gentle simmer, just enough for the ingredients to release their fragrance without boiling vigorously.
Step 5: Maintain a low simmer. As the water evaporates, replenish it with additional hot water to keep the pot from drying out. This can be done every 30-60 minutes, or as needed.
Step 6: Enjoy the wonderful aroma filling your home! The simmer pot can be kept simmering for 3-4 hours, or even longer if you continue to add water. For extended use, turn off the heat once the aroma dissipates, let cool, and store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Reheat gently when ready to use again.
Step 7: Alternatively, you can use a slow cooker for longer unattended simmering. Add all ingredients and water to a slow cooker and set to 'low'. This method is excellent for maintaining a consistent, long-lasting aroma throughout the day without frequent water replenishment.

Notes

Always keep an eye on your simmer pot, especially if using a stovetop, to ensure the water level doesn't get too low. For safety, never leave a simmering pot unattended for extended periods. This recipe is for aroma only and should not be consumed.
