Description

Experience the ultimate frosty chocolate indulgence with this simple yet decadent frozen hot chocolate recipe. Rich, creamy, and perfectly blended, it's a delightful treat that cools you down while satisfying your deepest chocolate cravings.

Ingredients

Scale

1/2 cup high-quality unsweetened cocoa powder (Dutch-processed recommended)
1/2 cup granulated sugar (or to taste)
1 cup whole milk (or preferred creamy milk alternative)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt (enhances flavor)
2 cups ice cubes
Whipped cream for topping
Chocolate shavings or mini marshmallows for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: In a small saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, and 1/4 cup of the milk. Whisk over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened, forming a concentrated chocolate syrup. This step is crucial for deep flavor. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Step 2: Pour the cooled chocolate syrup into a high-speed blender. Add the remaining 3/4 cup milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend until well combined.
Step 3: Add the ice cubes to the blender. Start blending on a low setting, gradually increasing to high, until the mixture is thick, frosty, and smooth, resembling a slushie or milkshake. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides with a spatula to ensure all ice is incorporated.
Step 4: Taste and adjust sweetness if desired. If it's too thick, add a splash more milk; if too thin, add a few more ice cubes and blend again. Pour the delightful frozen hot chocolate recipe into two tall glasses.
Step 5: Top generously with a swirl of whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or a sprinkle of mini marshmallows. Serve immediately with a straw and enjoy your perfect frozen hot chocolate recipe!

Notes

For an extra rich flavor, you can melt 1-2 ounces of dark chocolate with the cocoa and sugar in Step 1. If you have any leftover chocolate syrup, store it in an airtight container for up to a week. I often use these Basics Glass Food Storage containers for syrup and other ingredients!
