Description
A vibrant, easy-to-make strawberry sauce recipe perfect for topping cheesecakes, pancakes, ice cream, and more. Made with fresh or frozen berries and a hint of lemon.
Ingredients
1 lb fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and sliced
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for a thicker sauce)
1 tbsp water (if using cornstarch)
Instructions
Step 1: In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Stir well to coat the berries.
Step 2: Let the mixture sit for about 5-10 minutes to allow the berries to release their natural juices.
Step 3: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
Step 4: Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the strawberries have softened and the liquid has thickened slightly. For a smoother sauce, you can lightly mash some of the berries with a fork.
Step 5: If you prefer a thicker consistency, whisk the cornstarch and water together in a small bowl to create a slurry. Stir the slurry into the simmering sauce and cook for another 1-2 minutes until thickened.
Step 6: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the sauce cool before serving or storing in the refrigerator.
Notes
If using frozen strawberries, you may need to simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes. This sauce keeps well in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
