Description

A hearty, deeply layered pie packed with seasoned ground beef, zesty Italian sausage, and classic pepperoni, all baked under a bubbling blanket of cheese and tangy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

1 (14-16 ounce) package store-bought or homemade deep-dish pizza dough
1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
1 lb Italian sausage, casing removed
4 oz sliced pepperoni
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes or your favorite marinara sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded provolone cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp dried basil
Salt and black pepper to taste
Optional: Red pepper flakes for a kick

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If using a pie plate, lightly grease it. If using a springform pan, press a piece of parchment paper into the bottom and grease the sides.
Step 2: On a lightly floured surface, roll out your deep-dish pizza dough into a large circle, about 12-14 inches in diameter. Carefully transfer the dough to your prepared pie plate or springform pan, pressing it firmly into the bottom and up the sides. Trim any excess dough, leaving a slight overhang if desired.
Step 3: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Step 4: Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onion and garlic. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned, stirring occasionally. Drain any excess fat. Transfer the cooked ground beef to a bowl.
Step 5: In the same skillet, add the Italian sausage, crumbling it as it cooks. Brown the sausage thoroughly, then drain any excess fat.
Step 6: In a medium bowl, combine the crushed tomatoes (or marinara sauce) with oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. If you like a little heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
Step 7: Begin layering your deep hamburger sausage pepperoni pie. Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of the dough. Sprinkle about half of the mozzarella and provolone cheeses over the sauce. Evenly distribute the cooked ground beef over the cheese.
Step 8: Layer the cooked Italian sausage over the ground beef. Place half of the sliced pepperoni over the sausage. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and provolone cheeses over the pepperoni. Finish with another layer of sauce, ensuring good coverage, and arrange the remaining pepperoni on top.
Step 9: Bake the deep hamburger sausage pepperoni pie for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned. If the crust starts to brown too quickly, you can loosely tent the pie with foil.
Step 10: Once baked, carefully remove the deep hamburger sausage pepperoni pie from the oven. Let the pie rest for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. Trust me, it’s worth the wait for the perfect slice!
